The problem that occurs in highrise buildings is the ability to receive earthquake loads. Building stiffness is required in addition to strength, this is to avoid excessive deflection and building frequency requirements. The use of shear walls is one solution to overcome this. Installation of shear walls requires special attention considering that this component is the main support for lateral forces. The execution side of shear walls requires attention because of the relatively thin dimensions. The research was carried out by redesigning the 6-storey building model where the existing condition uses shear walls. Column dimensions are enlarged to obtain a deflection that is close to that if a shear wall is used. The results show that shear walls are effective in reducing lateral deflection in the width direction of the building. The building object of this study is still able to meet the standard of lateral deflection even without shear walls
