STUDI EKSPERIMENTAL PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN BIOETANOL PADA BAHAN BAKAR PERTAMAX TERHADAP UNJUK KERJA MOTOR BENSIN

ABSTRACT
An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of bioethanol blending in pertamax to the performance of four-stroke spark ignition engine. The engine was tested in dynamometer bench. The performance parameters investigated were torque, brake power and specific fuel consumption (SFC). The engine performance test used pertamax 100% (E 0), pertamax 95%-bioethanol 5% (E 5), pertamax 90%-bioethanol 10% (E 10), pertamax 85%-bioethanol 15% (E 15), pertamax 80%-bioethanol 20% (E 20). The experimental results showed that torque and brake power were higher when pertamax-bioethanol blending was used as fuel on low to medium engine speeds for all cases investigated. The higest torque and brake power was reached when the engine fueled by E 20. On the other hand, for high engine speeds, torque and brake power were reduced by increasing percentage of bioethanol, even E 15 % and E 20% were lower than E 0. In this engine speeds, the higest torque and brake power was reached when the engine fueled by E 5. The results also showed that the use of pertamax-bioethanol blend caused lower SFC throughout all the engine speeds range studied. The lowest SFC power was reached when the engine fueled by E 2.
