PENINGKATAN KUALITAS BIOGAS DENGAN METODE ABSORBSI DAN PEMAKAIANNYA SEBAGAI BAHAN BAKAR MESIN GENERATOR SET (GENSET)

ABSTRACT

World energy consumption increase continuously from year to year . With increasingly of energy consumption, it will accelerate the reduction of fossil energy reserves, because fossil energy sources are unrenewable energy sources. Meanwhile, fossil energy is still become the main source of energy in the world.

This study aims to determine the methane content in the biogas after purification process and the effect of the electric power produced by electric generator set. In this research study will be conducted biogas purification using the stratified absorption method with absorbent of Ca(OH)2 and zeolite. After going through the process of purification, further biogas tested as a fuel in electric generator set.

From this research can be known that column of absorber can increase the methane content in the biogas and reduce the odor of biogas. With the greater the methane content in the biogas, the electricity generated by electric generator will also be greater. With increasing load, the voltage that generated by electric generators will decrease. The engine that driving the electric generator is not run when the flow rate of biogas is too low or too high. It Still need to do research to find the column of absorber design that can increase the methane content in biogas close to 100 % and to get the air flow and biogas regulation system in order to obtain the proper ratio to produce optimum power.
